The Heart of Giving #4: Gratitude is Not Enough
There are moments in a community’s life when gratitude is not enough.
As Thanksgiving approaches, we have an opportunity to reflect on the people who have cared for our families through some of the most difficult moments of our lives: our nurses, physicians, technologists, environmental services teams, clerks, paramedics, and every frontline professional who walks the halls of Stevenson Memorial Hospital.
When the pandemic arrived, none of us knew what we were facing. But you came anyway. You showed up when PPE was scarce, when fear was high, when the science was still emerging, and when the rest of the world was told to stay home. You walked into danger so others could walk out alive. You did it exhausted, understaffed, and often unthanked. You did it while the rest of us complained about cancelled dinners, empty stadiums, and missing conveniences. And still, you provided unwavering care to every person who came through our doors.
To our health care workers: thank you. You have been extraordinary members of our community, and your dedication has not been forgotten.
But gratitude should be more than words.
Our community owes you more than applause. We owe you the tools, spaces, technology, and resources worthy of your commitment. That is why the redevelopment of Stevenson Memorial Hospital is not simply brick and mortar. It is about building a hospital that reflects the care, dedication and compassion of the people who work there.
A modern hospital is not a luxury. It is an investment in our community and in the people who care.
They carried us. Now it’s our turn to carry them.
Let’s build a hospital that matches their courage. Let’s ensure that the next generation of health care workers walks into a facility that reflects the respect we hold for them.
This Thanksgiving, turn gratitude into action. A donation to the Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation helps bring us closer to a new hospital designed to better serve our patients, families and health care teams for generations to come.
Help us build the hospital our community deserves. Donate today.
